Does anyone else remember Mixel? It was a collaborative collage app that arrived early in the iPad era, was amazing for a little while, then pivoted into online postcards or something, then slipped under the waves.
You started with a blank canvas and a collection of images that sort of acted like stickers you could plop on the canvas and manipulate into a collage. The collection was socially driven, so for periods something would find its way into collective consciousness, spawning a bunch of riffs on a theme.
You could import someone else’s Mixel and get access to all the little clips and elements they created.
There were some genuinely gifted people on Mixel, making little collages out of tiny, intricate parts. There were a lot of goofballs. For periods someone would drift through your field of view, and maybe you’d start playfully volleying ideas back and forth, then one or the other would drift off.
Possibly one of the best creative-apps-with-social-component ever.
All the ones I managed to preserve before the service tanked.
