The RSS tool seems to have done its job: For a few weeks I wouldn’t leave the web UI because I wanted to be able to score and block. I couldn’t use Unread because there was no way to manage scoring/filtering. But for the past week+, I’ve just been using Unread on my Mac or phone.

It’s not so much that I want to read everything, it’s just that having spent a lot of time tuning and setting up filters, everything is pretty much readable – more a function of time and specific interest than quality.

Considering I tripled the number of feeds I subscribe to in a few weeks and feel less put off and overwhelmed going in, that seems like a win.

I wish RSS had some kind of client reference standard. I used the Fever API for this project because it’s just sitting there and is understood by a few of the best macOS/iOS RSS readers (Unread, Reeder). But the API stopped short of things like group management, so I only get so much for free, and if I wanted my service to work fully to spec without the annoyances of a web app, I’d need to commit to building my own native app.

I guess Tauri on macOS would be a good way to see how all this could work with more native widgets, menus, etc. Doing something for iOS with all the Xcode and Testflight, etc. overhead feels like more than I want to deal with.
