It has always been true that keeping everybody aligned and moving in the same direction depends on your ability as a leader to cultivate a sense of belonging, safety, and inclusion on your teams. It's even more important as more workplaces adopt hybrid-remote work cultures.


There are all kinds of management styles and practices. When I'm starting with a new team I focus on roles & responsibilities and prioritization. Here are some thoughts on how to help your team prioritize, and some frameworks for keeping everybody clear on who's doing what.

Listening to People

Once you make the shift from being a fixer who has all the answers to a leader who listens like they don't know the answer, you can build trust with the people you want to help. This is a collection of principles and practices I picked up after an intense year as the Portland site lead at Puppet.
